There has been a decline (61 per cent) in deaths from circulatory diseases between 1998 and 2018 for First Nations Peoples. However, heart disease is still a major contributor to the gap in life expectancy between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and non-Indigenous Australians.

Indigenous health-centred Diploma of Leadership and Management
The second learning retreat for the Indigenous Health-Centred Diploma of Leadership and Management was recently held in Cairns.
In recognition of the significant Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health workforce in the NQPHN region, a collaboration with Health Workforce Queensland (HWQ) and Health Industry Training (HIT) was established. HWQ funded places under their Bursary Program, and HIT developed and provided the training for this course.
