Following on from 6 years of running the successful two-day course: “Let’s Talk About Sex: Sexuality and Sexual Difficulties”, we at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Monash University have developed a one-day live, online course on managing sexual pain.
In this course we have the opportunity to dive deeper into the breadth and complexities of helping people who are experiencing painful sex.
Format
The morning will include 30 minute presentations from our multidisciplinary faculty of speakers, with Q & A. In the afternoon, we will discuss cases across the lifespan, inclusive of diversity of clinical features, gender, sexual orientation, relationship status and structure, and culture. We will take a biopsychosociocultural approach to each case.
Learning outcomes
- Demonstrate respectful, inclusive communication with, and trauma informed care, of patients presenting with sexual difficulties including sexual pain.
- Implement assessment of a patient presenting with sexual pain using a biopsychosocial framework.
- Determine the aetiological factors causing and contributing to a patient’s dyspareunia.
- Create a management plan for helping patients presenting with sexual pain.
- Recommend appropriate referral for multidisciplinary and medical specialist care for patients with dyspareunia.
This course is approved for CPD hours for RACGP and RANZCOG.
