Disability Seating and Transportation Workshop

Posted Sunday 24 November 2024 | Kidsafe Queensland

Kidsafe Queensland are conducting a series of Disability Seating and Transportation Workshops across Queensland in collaboration with the Queensland Government and the Department of Transport and Main Roads.

The free workshops give Allied Health Professionals the opportunity to develop a better understanding of how to safely and legally transport clients of all ages, with a variety of different disabilities or behavioural issues. With over 20 years experience, the Kidsafe Queensland CEO/Disability Specialist, Susan will have a variety of different seats, restraints, harnesses, and accessories with her in order to demonstrate their use and appropriate application. It's hands on and a perfect opportunity to ask questions as well as learn how and when to use a variety of different items.

Points of discussion will include:

  • postural vs behavioural harnesses
  • hip spica's
  • Australian/New Zealand Standards 4370:2013
  • use of a harness in relation to restrictive practices
  • Australian Standard child restraints vs imported disability seats (e.g., Carrot)
  • tips, tricks, and other accessories used for both postural and behavioural support.
