How do I get started?
Call our team on 1800 16 17 18 and have your AHPRA Number handy. To register online go to gpsupport.org.au. Please allow 24 hours for online registration.
What is the cost of the service?
It is a free service for GPs. The GP Psychiatry Support Line received funding from the Australian Government.
When can I call?
Between 7am and 7pm, (AEST) Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays).
How many times can I use the service?
As many times as you wish.
Can I contact the support line any other way?
Once you are registered, you can make bookings online at www.gpsupport.org.au
Can I call to discuss children and adolescents?
Yes. All of the support line psychiatrists have worked in the public system and have experience working with younger patients. In more difficult cases, you can request a booking to speak to a psychiatrist with more in-depth experience.
What follow up procedures are place in after each enquiry?
Following each consultation, GPs are sent a digital version of the notes discussed during each enquiry.
Can I speak to the same psychiatrist across multiple calls?
Yes, you can. However, you may need to make a booking to speak with the same psychiatrist. Make note of your previous Enquiry ID when you make this booking if you wish to discuss the same patient on multiple consultations.
Is this service only available to GPs?
Yes, this is exclusive to GPs. The support line is NOT a triage or referral service, nor an emergency service.
