NQPHN is an independent, not-for-profit organisation, funded to commission services to meet the health needs and priorities of our region (from St Lawrence in the south coast, up to the Torres Strait in the north, and west to Croydon and Kowanyama). Applications will be considered and reviewed by the NQPHN Nomination and Remuneration Committee (Committee), shortlisted applicants will be interviewed, and the recommended applicants will be considered for appointment at a General Meeting of NQPHN Members in November 2023.

NQPHN is seeking EOI applications from individuals with the qualifications, knowledge, experience, and attributes that will contribute to the organisation achieving its vision of northern Queenslanders living happier, healthier, longer lives. The Committee applies a skills matrix to assist with the process of assessing EOI applications to complement continuing directors, prior to making recommendations to members of NQPHN.

As part of the skills matrix process, preference will be provided to applicants who can demonstrate skills, experience, or capability in the following key criteria:

  • Skills and experience in primary health care practice and service models in the following fields:
    • community mental health
    • community general practice
    • community allied health.
  • Strong knowledge, expertise, and networks in one or more of the following areas:
    • Data systems understanding, analysis and application
    • Government relations and policy advocacy
    • Health policy, planning and delivery
    • Accounting and finance
    • Information and communications technologies.
  • Evidence of high professional and ethical standards of behaviour, including team participation, sound judgment, capacity to investigate information constructively and relate effectively with a range of stakeholders and partners.
  • To align with our strategic plan and commissioning priorities, practitioners with expertise and interest in Governance, First Nations people’s health, mental health governance or population health would be viewed favourably.
  • A willingness and demonstrated ability to devote time and energy to the role.
  • Applicants residing within the areas of Mackay-Sarina, Townsville, Torres Strait and Cape York, and adjacent communities are sought, to broaden the current Board membership.

The time commitment envisaged is attendance at bi-monthly face to face Board meetings and as required via video/teleconference for one day, and in addition bi-monthly for one hour.  You may also be asked to serve on one or more of the Board Committees.

We are the lead organisation for developing – with our partners – an integrated and coordinated primary healthcare system that delivers the best care possible to achieve measurable health improvements for the people of North Queensland. NQPHN is one of 31 Primary Health Networks funded by the Australian Government to provide better access to improved primary healthcare services.

NQPHN aims to improve health outcomes for all residents by supporting, investing in, and working collaboratively with local Hospital and Health Services (HHSs), the primary healthcare sector, local government areas (LGAs), other health organisations, and the wider community.

Applications will be considered and reviewed by the NQPHN Nomination and Remuneration Committee (Committee), and recommendations will then be made to the Board. The appointments will expire at the AGM in November 2022 with view for continuation.

As part of the skills matrix process, preference will be given to applicants who can demonstrate skills, experience, or capability in the following key criteria:

  • A community general practitioner (in accordance with clause 14.1 of the Constitution). To align with our strategic plan and commissioning priorities practitioners with expertise and interest in First Nations people’s health, mental health or population health would be viewed favourably.
  • Applicants with a strong understanding of or expertise in one or more of the following skills to complement their medical practitioner qualifications and interests.
    • corporate governance
    • clinical governance
    • system integration and innovation
    • stakeholder engagement.
  •  It would be desirable that applicants ordinarily reside in the NQPHN region (from Sarina in the south to the Torres Strait in the north), and/or can demonstrate knowledge of and commitment to the primary healthcare of the region.
  • Applicants who can demonstrate skills that complement those of continuing directors in delivering on the recently revised strategic plan.
