The meeting included a sequence of captivating presentations and chances for networking, and sparked discussions regarding primary care.

Chloe Voss, Senior Primary Care Engagement Officer at NQPHN, provided an informative update on how the Primary Care Engagement Team can offer support to practices, ongoing initiatives (including the Proactive Chronic Conditions Management Program), Continuing Professional Development (CPD), and opportunities for upskilling.

Ines Zuchowski, Senior Lecturer at JCU, shared her research on social workers in general practice. She highlighted the benefits of hosting student social work placements to explore alternative models of care in general practice. Ines's presentation introduced a fresh perspective on integrating social work into primary care settings.

Danielle Sunderland, Team Leader – North Queensland, General Practice and Rural Medicine at the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP), provided an update on the RACGP placement process, offering insights and program updates for registrars pursuing part-time training.

Bridget Webber, Psychologist, focused on a topic of paramount importance – mental health and well-being. In a constantly evolving healthcare environment, the emphasis on self-care resonated strongly with participants and initiated conversations regarding the well-being of primary care staff. Her practical advice on maintaining well-being proved exceptionally beneficial.

The networking meeting allowed practice managers to connect, share experiences, and exchange best practice information. Participants stated "The information shared was incredibly valuable” and “As someone new to the general practice system in Australia…  it was lovely to meet everyone and learn about the different opportunities/schemes available. I look forward to the next event!"
